What has driven this demand for videos?
The use of videos for online marketing has been simmering in the background for some time, but in the last few years its use has sky rocketed.
The reason for this is down to the increase in smartphone users, the push from social media platforms to video content, and down to the ease of videos being able to cut through the noise from the sheer amount of content we all get pushed in front of us lately.
Individuals have become increasingly happy to watch videos, not just from their friends, but also from brands and companies.
How should I get into videos?
If you have a smartphone you can create short videos for your social channels.
Don’t get too hung up on polished perfect videos, the videos that do the best are those that are authentic. Short and sweet videos are the best from an engagement point of view.
If you don’t have a huge amount of time or resources to invest in videos, start with some evergreen videos. Videos that aren’t seasonal and can be rejigged to create multiple videos from the same core content.
If you are short on time, or lack the confidence, there are lots of video creators out there that will work with you to create a series of videos that can used in various ways.

Key elements
There are a few key elements that you should not forget when you post/share videos as part of your online marketing, they are..
Don’t forget captions
They aren’t just for the deaf and hard of hearing, they also work well for those watching videos in noisy environments without headphones - on the train for example.
Consider how your video will be watched
This will dictate whether you should be filming in landscape (for YouTube for example) or portrait (for Instagram for example)
Keep focused on your message
Keep your videos short and sweet, less waffle.
If you have a lot to say then break them down into logical categories and create multiple videos.
Keep an eye on your background
Watch, watch, and re-watch any videos that you create, keeping an eye on the background to ensure that you don't accidently share a video with something questionable in the background.
Consider the angle of the video and check whether any personal data or security flaws are shown - that means, no passwords shown in full view of your audience! A personal pet peeve of ours.
