Google my Business have announced a new feature which will focus on those located within a specific area.
They have stated:
We’ve recently made a few updates to Google My Business, so you can now share your service areas and information about your business via Google Maps and Search—so you can get found and tap into the many people searching for businesses like yours everyday.
This update means that when a business creates their Google my Business account they will be prompted through a new set up process, this process starts with the question ‘Do you want to add a location customers can visit, like a store or office?’.
If you say no then they will be directed towards a further questions specific for a service area business. It’s here that the business will be able to add the various areas that they cover instead of a static address. This can be configured by postal codes or cities.
This section can be edited at a later date should the area that you cover change.
What is a Service Area Business?
A service area business is generally defined as any business that offers a service in a specific location.
Examples of typical service area businesses are tradesmen, mobile mechanics and even mobile beauticians. These types of businesses tend to visit the customer at their home or office address and therefore they work in a particular area or radius of their base.
What if I am a Service Area Business but I also have a Physical Storefront or Business Address?
Some service area businesses have a business address, workshop or showroom for their business that customers are invited to visit. If this is the case for you then don’t worry, you can specify and edit both a service area and a physical location within your Google my Business listing.
If you are a service area business in any way, shape or form, then be sure you're making the most of this new update on your Google my Business listing.
