An ‘About Us’ page is considered to be a basic yet important component for many websites.
A place where you can put information about you and your business for anyone who wants to know – helping humanise your business, foster connection and convey trust to your website visitors.
Information on this page can include…
- The history of the business
- The business mission and values
- The types of audiences that you serve
- Any unique work
Essentially it is your space to share your story and what matters to you. Giving space for your clients and potential clients to see if they align with your business objectives and values.
Some businesses add information on key members of staff within their ‘About us’ page, others keep this separate in a specific ‘Team’ page.
Whether you include staff information in your ‘About Us’ page depends largely on the size of your business – with lots of staff members it would be cleaner to have a separate ‘Team’ page.
You can also have your ‘About us’ page as a section within a wider company page if there isn’t much to say right now. Websites are a constantly evolving thing so you can always come back and improve a few months down the line.
Don’t forget that you can show a lot of personality on your 'About Us' page so don’t fear being jokey and personal (naturally, only if your industry allows this – individuals don’t necessarily want to see jokes on their lawyers website).
How to create your ‘About Us’ page
Step 1: Tell your website visitors what it is you do.
Detail the business mission/purpose without any jargon.
Step 2: Give potential customers a reason to buy from you/work with you
Explain how your business is different and convey your offerings. Here it is best to include a line on how customers can ‘rely’ on your business or can receive ‘great customer service’ throughout their interactions with your business.
Step 3: Add the ‘Human’ touch
Explain the company’s history and any founders to humanise your business and its offering. You can include pictures and videos here.
Step 4: End your ‘About Us’ page with a Call to Action (CTA)
Once you have introduced your company, encourage individuals to take that next step. Depending on the business that could be contacting your team via call/text/contact form, signing up for any newsletters you offer, or simply encouraging them to browse your products/services for further information.
Further Tips:
#1: The best ‘About Us’ pages are written in a way that is focused on your customer and how you can assist them. The team here at Nachos does realise that seems like a contradiction when the page is focused on your business, but just trust us on that.
#2: Make your ‘About Us’ page memorable – this could be by bringing in some jokes or silliness, or it could be by including some kind of graphic or video that is captivating. Stand out for all the right reasons though!
#3: Toot your horn! Without sounding obnoxious, showcase your accomplishments. They could include:
- The number of years your business has been operating
- Any patents, copyrights or IP owned by the business
- Any relevant awards, training and/or certifications achieved by the business
- Any statistics about your success – this could include customer satisfaction rates, percentage of repeat customers, and even the size of your customer base
