An ‘Impression’ in marketing terms refers to the number of opportunities people have had to view that page/social post/email.
For example.
If you have a landing page promoting your services then the number of impressions would be how many times it was shown in a search result to everyone.
If you have a social post promoting your services then the number of impressions would be how many times your social post appeared in people’s social feed.
If you sent out an email promoting your services the number of impressions would be how many people received the email in their inbox.
It is essentially the base figure for you – the number of opportunities available to you and your business.
Is this the same as ‘Engagement’ or ‘Reach’?
No.
‘Impressions’ focuses on the possibility of customers viewing the page/social post/email.
‘Reach’ focuses on the actual number of views or interactions with your page/social post/email.
‘Engagement’ focuses on meaningful customer interactions.
How do I calculate my Impressions?
Impressions aren’t always easy to calculate accurately, after all, possibilities can ultimately be endless.
Withing various analytics tools you can often see an estimated number of impressions, but most analytics tools focus on showing you the reach.
